Hello! My name is Dominik Heiler, and I am a game developer, programmer, and artist. I was born in Hungary and have been spending most of my life living in the UK, currently studying at UWE Bristol while independently honing my skills with software development, game design, and pixel-art!
Ever since I started making my own platformer levels inside of many Super-Mario-style flash games at the age of 7, and made my own board games out of cardboard shoeboxes at the age of 10, I have always had a fascination and drive to want to create. Whether for myself or for other people’s enjoyment, I have always felt immense satisfaction out of simply making things, especially if it involved a computer of some kind. Later on in my life, it was at college and university where I truly found the skills, knowledge, and passion to turn many of my ideas into reality. It’s where I really got my hands dirty within the world of gameplay programming and analysed the finer details of what made games satisfying, challenging, but most importantly, fun. I've also been working on digital art on the side as well, in order to give the games that I make the unique and responsive graphics they deserve to have, as well as the aesthetics to truly make them stand out from the crowd.
Since the start of my journey, I have gained lots of experience working on game-jams, mods of other games, as well as university assignment projects of widely varying lengths and sizes. I'm an eager, motivated and independent learner who is confident working on their own or in large teams. I've had a love for all things creative since I was a baby, and I have continued to be incredibly fascinated by video games since, as an artistic medium, an interactive entertainment form, and as a tool to help and educate people around the world.
My current specialised skills consist of:
- In-depth understanding of industry-leading game engines such as Unity and Unreal Engine 5.
- Programming a variety of games using many different tools and languages, especially within the C family of languages.
- A range of artistic abilities, specifically when working in character design, concept art, and especially pixel-art.
- Solid understanding of technical tools in other disciplines, such as level design, version control, video editing, graphic design, and general team management.
